PS Flood Barriers® In Action: Hudson River Project

Hoboken, NJ

The City of Hoboken is building one of the most significant flood protection systems in its history as part of the Rebuild by Design – Hudson River Project. Developed in response to the devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy, the project is designed to defend the city from future storm surge, high tides and heavy rainfall events.

The system includes nearly 9,000 feet of reinforced concrete floodwalls and more than 25 deployable floodgates strategically located along the Hudson River waterfront. PS Flood Barriers® is manufacturing the large Sliding Flood Barrier and Hinged Flood Barrier systems for the project. These custom-engineered slide and swing barriers are designed to secure key streets and transit corridors during extreme weather while remaining fully functional and accessible during normal day-to-day operations.

When deployed, the gates create a continuous line of protection for residences, businesses and critical infrastructure. When not in use, they integrate seamlessly into the surrounding parks and urban spaces, preserving access, aesthetics and the daily rhythm of the city while standing ready to protect it when needed.
